So who remembers Micro Machines? They were massive for a while before fading into obscurity and in fact the games are probably remembered better than the actual toys now! For those unaware Micro Machines were tiny little models of cars, boats, planes and other such vehicles. They often ended up under your sofa never to be seen again! Codemasters took these miniature toys and turned them into a series of excellent top viewed racing games that first debuted on the NES with this title. At the start of this game you get to choose what type of game you want to play, the one-player challenge mode or two-player head to head. Then you get to choose a character from a skinny nerd to a big fat bully. All the races take place in different locations that are designed to emphasise how small the toys actually are. So for example when you play as boats you are in a bath with giant rubber ducks and sponges. Or you can race a car around the breakfast table avoiding bottles of sauce and errant cornflakes! The game moves incredibly fast so learning tracks soon becomes a key element of the game. Micro Machines scores really high when it comes to visuals, everything has been brilliantly drawn. The sound is rather mundane with just a title tune and a few effects. Micro Machines is an incredibly fun and playable game that will entertain just as equally in single player as it will against a friend.
